The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) has confirmed a 4.7 magnitude quake struck 78km (48 miles) south-west of Farīdābād, India.
The quake occurred at 7pm local time, 2.30pm BST.
As it stands, no casualties have been reported.
There has been no reports of damage to buildings in the capital as of yet.
One local tweeted: “Major earthqake in Delhi.
“Building still shaking. God!”
Another said: “Felt earthquake while sitting on sofa in living room.”
The EMSC also confirmed the earthquake hit a depth of 35km (21 miles).
