Goelz receives Gatorade award

Lakewood Ranch High first baseman is 2020 Softball Florida Player of the Year

Lakewood Ranch High softball player Avery Goelz received her award as Gatorade Florida Player of the Year in a ceremony at Lakewood Ranch High School.

A first baseman, Goelz was on a Mustangs team that won its first eight games and outscored their opposition 83-4. The left-handed hitter batted .591 (13-for-22) with two doubles, two triples, three home runs, 13 runs batted in and 10 runs scored.

Last year, Lakewood Ranch went 30-1 and finished as state runner-up. Goelz hit .543 (50-for-92) with 16 doubles, 6 triples, 9 home runs, 47 runs scored and 47 RBI.

Goelz will attend the University of Florida in the fall.
