Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has insisted the US Republican Party must “grow a pair” and move to convict Donald Trump. During the Lorraine show on Monday morning, Mr Morgan demanded the party has the courage to go after the former President. Mr Trump has faced significant criticism and attack for his speeches that some have argued has incited violence and an attack on democracy in the form of storming the Capitol Building.

Following the riots and chaos, Mr Morgan has insisted that Mr Trump was “mentally unfit” and renounced his former support for the US President.

The host Lorraine noted that the impeachment process was still ongoing and if successful would prevent him from running as President again.

Mr Morgan said: “It is really important, I think Donald Trump has become a very malevolent influence with the Republican party but he has all these followers.

“We know how blindly loyal they are because they were prepared to storm the US Capitol and commit acts of heinous violence.

He continued: “Donald Trump told them to march down to the Capitol, he told them to fight for me.

He said: “What we witnessed in America last week was one of the saddest things I’ve ever had to see, in a country that I love.

“It was a mob of insurrectionists attempting a coup, encouraged to fight down at the Capitol by their own Presiden.

“Trump’s gone mad. I think the pandemic and the realisation that he cost them the election have sent him nuts and now it’s a very dangerous situation.”
