Kate, 53, has been absent for several months on Good Morning Britain after husband Derek, 52, was admitted to St Thomas’ Hospital in London back in March. Whilst he has been in a coma to try and battle coronavirus, the broadcaster has been staying at home and caring for the couple’s two young children. The presenter’s colleagues on the show have been providing updates on their co-star’s spouse and she gave an emotional interview where she revealed he had fought off COVID-19. However, she admitted she didn’t know what impact the illness will have had on his body but as he begins to make progress, it seems the journalist could be back on screens very soon.
Speaking with Hello! Magazine as her husband has begun to wake from his coma, Kate said of returning to work: “The doctors have been urging me not to put my life on pause.
“They’ve told me that I need to go back to work and create a routine in our lives again,” the presenter continued.
“The children and Derek are all I’ve thought about and they’re the most important people in my life, but I must create structure and normality for the children, to clean the bath, put the plates in the dishwasher, and tidy the house.
“I also need to get back to work so that I can provide for the children and we can do things together, to make them feel that the light hasn’t gone out of their lives, that there’s hope for the future.”
