Liverpool have united in solidarity with goalkeeper Alisson Becker after the tragic passing of his father. The world of football was sent into a state of shock following the sad news from South America that had emerged on Thursday morning.

Jose Becker was swimming at a dam near his holiday property in his homeland when he went missing on Wednesday afternoon.

The local police were informed amid concerns for his safety at around 5pm local time.

Tragically, ESPN Brazil report that his body was discovered by local authorities at around midnight.

Now Liverpool have paid their respects to their goalkeeper and his family with a touching message of support.

The Premier League champions tweeted: “You’ll Never Walk Alone, @Alissonbecker,” accompanied with a red love heart emoji.

Tributes from around the world have now started to pour in, as Tottenham’s official Twitter account replied: “Sending our condolences, @Alissonbecker.”

“The thoughts and condolences of all of us at the Premier League are with Alisson, his family and his friends at such a difficult time,” said the Premier League.

Merseyside rivals also tweeted their condolences: “The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Everton are with Alisson Becker and his family following the tragic news of the death of his father, Jose Becker.”

Alisson’s former club Internacional were among the first to break the news.

“It is with great sadness that we received the news of Jose Agostinho Becker’s death, the father of our ex-goalkeepers Alisson and Muriel,” the Brazilian club said.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea also sent Alisson a message of support, a picture of the two embracing, captioned: “We are all with you.”

It remains unclear whether Alisson will be available for Liverpool’s trip to Sheffield United on Sunday.
