Man Utd concern over key star and Erik ten Hag record implodes in Crystal Palace defeat

Manchester United suffered more home woes in the Premier League on Saturday, falling to a dismal 1-0 defeat against Crystal Palace. Erik ten Hag’s side dominated possession but couldn’t find the net as Joachim Andersen’s first-half stunner was enough to seal a memorable Eagles win.

Express Sport takes a look at four talking points from United’s second successive Premier League defeat at Old Trafford.

Set piece sadness

Andersen’s strike was sensational, firing into the roof of the United net after Eberechi Eze’s out-swinging free-kick travelling through the sea of players in the hosts’ box.

But United’s tendency to concede from set pieces this season is a concern that Ten Hag and his coaches must fix.

Victor Lindelof was the man marking Andersen and was out-manoeuvred by his Danish defensive counterpart.

The Red Devils have now conceded three goals from dead-ball situations in the Premier League this term. Only Sheffield United have conceded more.

Rashford loses scoring touch

Ten Hag pulling Marcus Rashford off the pitch while United were chasing an equaliser tells you all you need to know about how his season is going.

The United No 10 has scored just four goals in 18 Premier League games and has been one of the players culpable for his side’s poor decision-making in the final third.

He consistently looks a threat on the ball but has failed to produce anything of note after a career-best 30-goal season outside of his Arsenal strike.

Rashford’s form is a worry, and United’s early-season struggles are undoubtedly related.

Mount a positive

There weren’t many positives for home side at Old Trafford, but Mount certainly was one.

Mount started his second successive game after returning from injury, this time playing 77 minutes after his impressive 45 in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup win.

And he was a bright spark in midfield, recording a 93 per cent pass accuracy and winning 11 of his 16 duels.

The 24-year-old must start again when Galatasaray visit M16 in the Champions League on Tuesday.
