Meghan Markle has ‘no clear direction’ on what her next move will be, after its rumoured she was eyeing up a job in politics, an expert says.
Pauline Maclaran, Professor of Marketing and Consumer Research at Royal Holloway, University of London, told Express.co.uk for Meghan, 42, to woo voters in America it might be prudent to leave her Duchess of Sussex credit at home with Prince Harry.
The United States famously severed ties with the Royal Family when they declared independence on July 4, 1776, and for mum-of-two Meghan to let off any fireworks in the political arena it may be “appropriate” to distance herself from the old colonial power.
Express.co.uk reported Meghan recently polled joint top choice among Democrats if the party picks a woman as its candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
Professor Maclaran said: “When she was lobbying for parental leave she used her Duchess of Sussex title and I don’t think that was an appropriate move.
“To me that indicates she doesn’t quite know where she is. She wants to use that title as a status symbol but, for a political route in the US, using a title is really rather ridiculous. It shows she wants to keep a foot in both camps.
“She could have said she was co-founder of Archewell or an actress. The royal title still seems to contribute to her sense of self and identity. I think it shows she hasn’t got a clear direction.”
