Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor celebrates his second birthday today and his parents marked the occasion by releasing a new adorable photograph
Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor celebrates his second birthday today and his parents marked the occasion by releasing a new adorable photograph. Archie also received well-wishes from members of the Royal Family, including the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William. However, their posts on social media drew attention to the stark reality of Megxit, as some royal households were forced to use re-use old pictures of Archie.
Clarence House, the royal household of Prince Charles and Camilla, and KensingtonRoyal, the Twitter account of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, were forced to use the same picture of Archie as they did to celebrate his birthday 12 months ago.
Meghan and Harry quit their senior roles within the Royal Family at the end of March 2020 – two months before Archie’s first birthday.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently living California and Archie has not returned to the UK to see any of his family for more than one year.
The decision of Meghan and Harry to move stateside has meant members of the Royal Family do not have any new photographs alongside the seventh-in-line to the throne.
The KensingtonRoyal account and Clarence House not only shared their same respective photos from a year ago on Twitter, but they were both taken at the same occasion – Archie’s christening in July 2019.
Kate and William shared an official family portrait from the christening, which included themselves, Meghan, Harry, Archie, Charles and Camilla.
Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland and Princess Diana’s sisters, Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, were also present in the rare snap.
In the post on Twitter, the Kate and William wrote: “Wishing Archie a very happy 2nd birthday today.”
Meghan and Harry did this evening release a new solo picture of Archie to mark his special day.
In the picture released on their Archewell website, the toddler can be seen standing alone in a field while holding a large bunch of helium-filled balloons in his right hand.
Royal watchers were unable to catch a glimpse of Archie’s face as he had his back turned to the camera.
