Team finishes first and fifth in final two tournaments
Tampa Mustangs-TJ, Lakewood Ranch-based national level softball program, completed its 2020 Summer Season by winning the Triple Crown Southeast Nationals in Alpharetta, Georgia, and by finishing fifth at USA Softball 18 Gold Nationals in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The team played 20 games in nine days to compete in the prestigious events.
The Mustangs finished their summer season with a 40-4 record, including going 8-1 in the new Florida Collegiate League as an at-large team.
The Mustangs were led offensively by Lakewood Ranch High School standouts Avery Goelz, Claire Davidson and McKenzie Clark.
Payton Kinney and Davidson, who pitched for the Mustangs, each went 12-1 this summer.
Of the 18 players on the roster, 14 will leave for their Division 1 universities in the next few weeks.
The Tampa Mustangs-TJ won 3 of the 4 events it entered this summer and are most nationally accomplished travel softball team from the area.
