Speaking to French radio RTL on Tuesday, National Rally (Rassemblement National, RN) leader Marine Le Pen said her party could win next year’s French Presidential election in a bold warning to Emmanuel Macron. She called on French voters to put her party into power and claimed “public opinion is saying in the polls” that she will win the 2022 election against incumbent President Macron.

Addressing RTL presenter Alba Ventura, Ms Le Pen said: “It’s not up to you if we can or cannot go to the Elysee.

“It’s up to French voters to say.”

The National Rally party leader added: “At the moment, public opinion is saying in the polls that we can and I’m going to say that we are going to the Élysée.

“I appeal to all French voters, I want to create a Government of national unity and of civil peace to get out of the situation Emmanuel Macron threw us into.”

She went on to say: “I appeal to all French voters and tell them their great idea of the nation, and protection of the nation, borders, identity defence, the return of prosperity through an economic model that respects our environment and funded on localism.

“All that, we can and we must reach again!”

And in a bold statement, Ms Le Pen confidently claimed her party has a strong chance of winning the French Presidential election in April 2022.

Ms Le Pen blasted: “And it’s on the basis of this coherent plan that we’re going to win the election.”

Ms Le Pen’s comments come as French minister Annick Girardin celebrated a move by the European Union to issue 14 more licenses which will be given to large French fishing vessels so they can be allowed to trawl the UK’s territorial waters.

France has stated through the nation’s Ministry of the Sea that negotiations will be held on Monday to obtain licenses for 14 additional vessels, 12 meters or more, that will be given access to British territorial waters.

French fishing minister Annick Girardin took to Twitter to celebrate the possible issuance of the new licences for the French trawlers.

Ahead of the scheduled meeting on Tuesday she tweeted: “New licenses for our fishermen!”

She went on to say: “This is a real step forward for their access to British waters but the account is still not there.

“The French government and the EU Commission still continue negotiations to obtain all the promised licenses.”

In another tweet, the French fishing minister said: “Dialogue with the British authorities must continue under the terms set out in the end 2020 trade and cooperation agreement. We will not allow ourselves to be imposed new criteria!”

On Monday, the EU Commission will discuss with their British counterparts access to UK waters for these larger vessels.
